Unity Statement by Chiefs
We, the undersigned Nuxalk'mc Hereditary chiefs, are in support of the statements that were made in Taleomey (South Bentinck) during a traditional totem pole raising and Nuxalk Potlatch hosted by the Snuxyaltwa Family from 19 to 22 August 2009. On several occasions, the Snuxyaltwa Family has asked that all commerical logging, fishing and hunting be stopped together with the new mines and fish farms so that our sacred land can heal naturally with the Creator's gifts. Agreements made with the governments of BC and Canada do not protect the environment or the animal kingdom and do not have our approval. Grizzly Bears, Whales, Eagles, Loons, Ravens and Wolves are sacred to the Nuxalk'mcs, along with the Sun and Moon. Talyu Hot Springs is a sacred Taleomey water for healing our bodies. Our community does not support the treaty process: see the map of our Home Lands. |
